Spring may still be playing hide and seek with us in Sudbury but we are not letting the decided lack of spring flowers deter us from hosting our fabulous writing opportunities. Whether you’re a current Guild member or looking to see what we have to offer – please consider checking out one of our meetings or Inner Circles.
April is National Poetry Month and the Guild is proud to include among its members some great poets including several former Poet Laureates (Tom Leduc, Vera Constatineau, Roger Nash) and Sudbury’s current Poet Laureate – Kyla Heyming. We have a Poet Inner Circle group that meets monthly to share their work lead by Nancy Daoust – the April meeting (April 5th) included a workshop by poet Tanis McDonald that helped us with techniques to edit our poems and how to “unstick” them when they are not working the way we would like.
At our regular Guild meeting on April 27 we will have Poet Ann Elizabeth Carson as a guest speaker. From her website: “ANN ELIZABETH has devoted her careers in psychotherapy and writing to understanding the silenced voices in our society, and to attempting to give them a place through her work. She is fascinated by the intersection of word with sound, visual images and movement and delighted to be working across artistic boundaries with writers, musicians, painters and dancers.”
We hope you’ll join us in celebrating National Poetry Month this April and attend our meeting on the 27th (hosted online and in person). We’re also looking for poetry submissions for our Superstack Project – the deadline closes May 12th for submissions. You’re encouraged to submit up to 3 poems for consideration.
The superstack takes me back to 1972
Up up up higher and higher into the sky so blue
Look at all the greenery and all the brand new scenery
Whenever or wherever you may roam
For fifty years the superstack has had a very special knack
For welcoming Sudburians back home
