Liisa Kovala is a Finnish Canadian author and certified fiction and memoir book coach. Her first book, Surviving Stutthof: My Father’s Memories Behind the Death Gate (Latitude 46, 2017), was shortlisted for a Northern Lit Award and published in Finland under the title Stutthofin selviytyjä (Docendo, 2020). Her debut historical novel, Sisu’s Winter War, was released by Latitude 46 in 2022. Liisa coaches writers both individually and in small groups, hosts writing workshops, and co-hosts Rekindle Creativity Women’s Writing Retreat with Dinah Lapraire. Liisa’s writing is inspired by her Finnish heritage and the northern landscape she calls home. Liisa is a member of The Writers Union of Canada, Canadian Authors Association, Historical Writers Association, and past president of Sudbury Writers Guild. She lives and writes in Sudbury, Ontario.
