Welcome back! Fall is just around the corner and the Guild is gearing up for our 31st season of supporting local writers and creatives in their pursuits.
A huge thank-you to outgoing the outgoing executive and a big welcome to the new executive. This year’s President Mat Del Papa is no stranger to the role having previously served as co-president in 2016-2017 season and takes over from Liisa Kovala who steps down as President after two terms, but remains on as our Secretary. New on the Executive this year is Bonnie Mathieu serving as Vice President. Nancy Daoust returns as our Treasurer.
Behind the scenes we have a number of people volunteering on social media, hosting inner circles, preparing and putting out our monthly newsletter, and generally making sure we continue to roll along as a group into our 31st year!
If you are new to the Sudbury area or just learning about the Guild and what we do – please reach out. Our first meeting of the year will be on Thursday Sept 28th, 2023 at College Boreal. We are in a NEW classroom this fall – Rm 4002. Its a special classroom set up specifically for video conferencing and will hopefully take our online hybrid Zoom meetings to a whole new level! You can either join us in person on the 28th or connect via Zoom. The link for the Zoom is shared via email for security reasons.
Also changing this season is our Membership Fee. The executive has voted to increase the fee from $30 to $40. One of the reasons for increasing the fee was to enable us to pay our invited guest speakers an honorarium that was comparable to other writing organizations similar to ours. The membership fee had remained unchanged as long as many of the current members could remember and in that time we have increased our presence online (via website and via zoom) which has costs. As well we incurred costs at events such as Graphic-Con and Wordstock where we have paid to have tables to promote the Guild and its members.
