Hi! I’m Val. I’m a born and raised Sudburian, the Guild’s social media manager, and a Communications graduate with a dream of becoming an author and editor. From an early age, I was what most consider a “geek,” and let me tell you, that hasn’t changed yet. I love reading, playing video games and ringette, photography, and most importantly, writing. Being a new writer, I don’t have any finished manuscripts yet, but I know I’ll get there eventually!
My current work in progress, dubbed The Untitled Story for the time being, is a high fantasy (potentially romantasy) novel/series. The story takes place in a world where a tyrannical organized religion is conquering a continent, where our main character, Rue, calls home. Rue, a girl who is just trying to stay out of sight, is pulled out of her simple life when her family lineage is discovered. From pirate ships, to decadent ballrooms, to traveling the continent and joining the Unition, Rue is taken far away from what she expected for her life. Thrusted into the unwanted position of “the chosen one,” Rue is now the beacon of hope for the Unition in their goal of taking down the Followers of Truth, who want to raise their god and purge the world of its impurities. This includes the Elvahn, the 5 different races of animal humanoids that they long ago tried and failed to eradicate in a bloody war. Will Rue rise to the occasion? Will she be able to take on the burden her parents unknowingly put on her? Will she be able to not only protect the Elvahn, but her home and the ones she loves? Only time will tell 😉 (because I have to actually write it haha)
Other than The Untitled Story, I am interested in writing scripts and romances. Many ideas are floating around my head, but at the moment I’m just trying to adult properly and balance my new career, schooling, and many interests.
To all the new writers out there and potential new Guild members, please don’t be afraid to reach out! Not only to me, but other members of the guild. I, and many others, are more than happy to sit and bounce ideas off one another and beta read anything from full manuscripts to a couple paragraphs.
Don’t give up on your dream, and I promise I won’t either 🙂
